Philanthropy

FIRST Robotics

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international non-profit organization founded in Manchester, NH in 1989 by Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers. Their mission is to inspire PreK-12 students to be engaged in science and technology through mentor-based programs.

Triangle partners with Ohio State’s FIRST Alumni group (FIRST Alumni & Robotics at Ohio State) to host various philanthropic events throughout the year with proceeds benefitting FIRST. Some event examples include grilled cheese fundraisers and our annual Triangle Canoe Battleship tournament (hosted at the RPAC Natatorium).

Extra Life

Extra Life was founded in honor of Victoria Enmon, a teenage gamer who lost her life to leukemia. Each year more than 50,000 gamers from across the world participate in honor of this young woman, and the millions of children treated each year at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

All proceeds from Extra Life directly benefit one of 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the United States and Canada. Donations are used for the most immediate need facing local kids; everything from patient programs, new equipment, and charitable care.

Triangle dedicates 24 hours, typically in the Autumn semester, each year toward participating in the Extra Life movement. Active brothers, alumni brothers, and friends spend this time gaming, with “whip-around” simulcast coverage and commentary provided on Triangle’s twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/osutriangle. All proceeds directly benefit the local Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
